To install the Micca M-8C Ceiling Round Speaker, follow these steps:
1. Choose a suitable mounting location where there are no electrical wires, ducts, plumbing, or other services running through the area.
2. Consider the separation, height, and tweeter aiming when deciding where to mount the speaker.
3. Use the provided installation tools, including a drywall saw, screwdriver, masking tape, pencil, bubble or laser level, tape measure, and stud finder.
4. Use a stud finder to locate studs or joists in the ceiling and mark the position where the cutout will be made using the supplied template and a pencil.
5. Cut a small square hole in the marked location to check for any obstructions behind the ceiling.
6. Use a drywall saw to make the mounting cutout according to the template outline, ensuring a 90-degree angle cut.
7. Trim any jagged or loose pieces of drywall and cover the cut edges with strips of masking tape to prevent gypsum from being knocked loose.
8. If the ceiling contains insulation, remove it at the cutout and approximately 1 foot around it. Secure any loose insulation that may fall on the speaker.
9. If the ceiling is not insulated, stuff the cavity with approximately 2 feet of fiberglass insulation around the cutout to provide damping and isolate vibrations.
10. Connect the speaker wire to the amplifier using UL rated CL2/CL3 speaker wire of the appropriate gauge based on the recommended minimum gauge for the wire length.
11. Connect the positive terminal on the amplifier to the positive terminal on the M-8C speaker and the negative terminal to the negative terminal.
12. Remove the grill from the speaker by rotating the mounting tabs on the back, sliding each tab towards the front, and gently pushing the grill away from the speaker.
13. Mount the speaker into the ceiling cutout by rotating the tabs clockwise inside the speaker frame and tightening the screws until the tabs press firmly against the inner surface.
14. Paint the frame and front of the grill, if desired, using an appropriate primer for plastic and being careful not to clog the grill perforations.
15. Aim the tweeter towards the listening area by gently pressing on its circular outer edge while listening to a familiar piece of music with a strong central image.
16. Install the grill by pressing it into the mounting groove, starting in one spot and going around the speaker until it is fully seated. Use the supplied gummy material for additional friction if needed.
17. The speaker can be easily removed by loosening the screws until the tabs release from the ceiling, pulling the speaker out, and disconnecting the speaker wire.
