To connect the MXL 990 Condenser Microphone to your computer, follow these steps:
1. Make sure any audio recording applications are closed.
2. Connect one end of the provided USB cable to the microphone's USB connector.
3. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer.
4. If you are using a Windows computer, Windows will display a New Hardware Found dialog message and your system may make a sound. Allow Windows some time to identify the device.
5. In approximately one minute, Windows should display a dialog message stating that Your New Hardware is Installed and Ready for Use. After this initial connection, Windows will require a few moments to identify the microphone.
6. If you are using a Mac computer, make sure any audio applications are closed.
7. Connect one end of the provided USB cable to the microphone's USB connector.
8. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your Mac computer.
9. To set the MXL 990 USB microphone as the default audio input for audio on your Mac, click on the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and select System Preferences.
10. Click on the Sound icon in the Hardware group.
11. In the Sound dialog screen, select the Input tab.
12. Choose the MXL 990 USB as the device for sound input.
13. By watching the movements of the Input level meter in this window, you can see that the MXL 990 USB microphone is working as you speak into it. This setting will be saved as the default input whenever the microphone is plugged in.
