To connect the MXL Acoustica MVS USB Condenser Studio Vocal Microphone to your computer, follow these steps:
1. Make sure any audio recording applications are closed.
2. Connect one end of the provided USB cable to the microphone's USB connector.
3. Connect the other end of the USB cable to an available USB port on your computer.
4. If you are using a Windows computer, Windows will display a "New Hardware Found" dialog message and your system may make a sound. Allow Windows some time to identify the device.
5. In approximately one minute, Windows should display a dialog message stating that "Your New Hardware is Installed and Ready for Use." After the first connection, Windows will require a few moments to identify the microphone.
6. If you are using a Mac computer, click on the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and select "System Preferences." Then, click on the "Sound" icon in the Hardware group. In the Sound dialog screen, select the "Input" tab and choose the "AK5371" (name for the Acoustica MVS Microphone) as the device for sound input.
7. You can now test your microphone setup by using the recording application on your computer. For Windows XP, you can use the Sound Recorder application. For Mac, you can use Garage Band.
