To select different polar patterns on the Lewitt LCT 840 microphone, follow these steps:
1. Locate the jog-dial on the microphone's user interface.
2. Briefly turn the jog-dial to the right or left to cycle through the available polar patterns.
3. The currently active polar pattern will be illuminated in white on the user interface.
The LCT 840 microphone offers five switchable polar patterns:
1. Cardioid: This polar pattern captures sound primarily from the front and rejects sound from the sides and rear. It is commonly used for vocals and solo instruments.
2. Omni-directional: This polar pattern captures sound equally from all directions. It is suitable for capturing ambient sound or group recordings.
3. Figure-8: This polar pattern captures sound from the front and back while rejecting sound from the sides. It is useful for capturing sound from two sources facing each other, such as a duet or an interview.
4. Broad-cardioid: This polar pattern is similar to cardioid but has a wider pickup angle. It offers a balance between the directivity of cardioid and the openness of omni-directional.
5. Super-cardioid: This polar pattern has a narrower pickup angle than cardioid and provides more rejection of sound from the sides. It is useful for capturing sound from a specific source while minimizing background noise.
By selecting the appropriate polar pattern, you can tailor the microphone's pickup characteristics to suit different recording scenarios and achieve the desired sound capture.
