To clean the Neumann BCM-104 microphone, you can follow these steps:
1. Remove the head grille: Unscrew the head grille from the microphone housing without the use of tools. This can be done by rotating the microphone so that the head grille is uppermost and then unscrewing it.
2. Clean the head grille: Use lukewarm water with a little detergent to clean the head grille. If there is stubborn soiling, you can gently scrub the head grille with a brush. Rinse the head grille thoroughly with clean water and allow it to air dry or dry it with a cloth. Do not use a blow dryer or heat to dry the head grille.
3. Clean the pop screen: The pop screen can also be removed for cleaning without the use of tools. Rotate the microphone so that the head grille is uppermost and unscrew it. Squeeze the frame of the pop screen on both sides to disengage the corners of the wireframe from the openings in the microphone housing. Remove the pop screen carefully without touching the capsule. Wash the pop screen using warm water and a little detergent. If necessary, use alcohol as a solvent to remove stubborn soiling. Rinse the pop screen in clean water and allow it to dry thoroughly. Do not use a blow dryer or heat to dry the pop screen.
4. Reassemble the microphone: When replacing the pop screen, make sure the wire gauze is positioned in front of the diaphragm side of the capsule. Squeeze the sides of the pop screen frame together and position the bottom of the frame inside the rim of the housing so that the corners of the wire frame slide into the four openings in the housing. xxxx the head grille back onto the microphone housing and rotate the microphone downwards into its operating position.
It is important to note that the microphone should not be operated without the head grille or pop screen, as this could damage the sensitive capsule and electronics. The acoustic properties of the microphone are designed to work with the combination of the capsule, pop screen, and head grille.
