To switch between different polar patterns on the MXL 770X microphone, you need to locate the polar pattern selector switch on the microphone body. The microphone offers three selectable polar patterns: cardioid, figure-8, and omnidirectional.
1. Cardioid Pattern: The cardioid pattern is ideal for picking up sound from the front of the microphone while minimizing sound from the sides and back. This pattern is suitable for situations where you want to focus on specific sound sources and reduce ambient noise.
2. Figure-8 Pattern: The figure-8 pattern captures sound equally from the front and back of the microphone while rejecting sound from the sides. This pattern is commonly used in Mid-Side (MS) stereo recording setups.
3. Omnidirectional Pattern: The omnidirectional pattern captures sound equally from all sides of the microphone. It is suitable for recording in environments with excellent acoustics and excels at picking up ambient noise.
To switch between these patterns, locate the polar pattern selector switch on the microphone body. The switch is usually marked with symbols representing the different patterns. Rotate the switch to the desired pattern, and the microphone will now capture sound according to the selected polar pattern.
Please refer to the MXL 770X microphone manual for specific instructions and illustrations on locating and using the polar pattern selector switch.
