To connect and set up the Pioneer VAFW40 Elite F4 Smart Speaker, follow these steps:
1. Power Cord Hookup:
- Connect the power cord to the DC IN port on the unit.
- Connect the other end of the power cord to an outlet.
- Always disconnect the power cord from the outlet first when disconnecting.
2. Download the Music Control app:
- Download the Music Control app from Google Play or the App Store to your smartphone or tablet.
- Make sure your smartphone or tablet is connected to the same network as the speaker.
3. Initial Setup:
- While the Light Ring on the speaker is orange and rotating, perform the following steps:
- For Android devices:
- Connect your Android handset to the access point.
- Start the Music Control app.
- Tap "Set Up Play-Fi Device" and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the speaker to the network.
- Sign in with your Amazon account and register the speaker with Amazon Alexa.
- For iOS devices:
- Connect your iOS device directly to the speaker via Wi-Fi.
- Start the Music Control app.
- Select the access point to connect the Play-Fi device (speaker).
- After connecting, register the speaker with Amazon Alexa by signing in with your Amazon account.
- Alternatively, you can register with Amazon Alexa later by tapping "Amazon Alexa" in the app's Home screen.
4. Checking the status of the speaker:
- The Light Ring on the top of the speaker indicates its status:
- Blue and brighter blue light rotating: Starting or on standby.
- Orange light rotating: Connected by Wi-Fi.
- White light: Adjusting the volume.
5. Using Amazon Alexa:
- Either face the speaker and say "Alexa" or press the Amazon Alexa button to call up the Amazon Alexa Voice Service.
- Alexa will respond and answer your questions after recognizing them.
- Note that the microphone needs to be on for Alexa to respond.
6. Registering a station:
- You can register up to 4 favorite radio stations for quick access:
- Play the station you want to register on the Music Control app.
- Press and hold one of the Preset buttons (1 to 4) for 4 seconds.
- Repeat the process to register more stations.
- Note that this feature may not be supported by some services.
7. Connecting external devices:
- To output audio from other devices:
- Turn off the speaker.
- Connect the supplied mini plug cable from the AUX OUT jack on the rear of the speaker to the audio input jack on your audio device.
- Turn on the speaker and start playing on the music app.
- Adjust the audio output level on the speaker if there is no sound output from the connected audio device.
- To input audio from other devices:
- Turn off the speaker.
- Connect the supplied mini plug cable from the AUX IN jack on the rear of the speaker to the audio output jack on your audio device.
- After turning on the speaker, open the Music Control app and tap the "i" at the top of the screen in the Home screen.
- Tap "Line In" and select the connected device for streaming.
- Start playing on the connected audio device.
8. Troubleshooting:
- If you encounter issues with Wi-Fi connection, ensure that your Wi-Fi router is not in stealth mode.
- For software update failures, check your internet connection and make sure to stop any ongoing play operations before updating.
- If you cannot control play with voice commands, note that content started playing using the Music Control app cannot be voice controlled using Amazon Alexa. Use the app for control.
