To install the Plustek SecureScan X50 Passport and ID Card Scanner, please follow these steps:
1. Check the box contents: Before starting the installation, make sure you have all the necessary components. The box should include the scanner, USB cable, quick guide, setup/application CD-ROM, and cover.
2. Verify system requirements: Ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the scanner. These requirements include a PC with an Intel Pentium IV 1.8GHz processor (2.4GHz recommended), 512 MB RAM (1GB RAM recommended), an available USB 2.0 port, a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, 500 MB free hard disk space, and an operating system of Windows 7/8/10.
3. Connect the scanner to your computer: Depending on the model (X50/X100 or X150), follow the appropriate steps below:
- X50/X100:
a. Plug the square end of the USB cable into the USB port at the rear of the scanner.
b. Plug the rectangular end of the USB cable into an available USB port on your computer.
c. If using a USB hub, connect the hub to the USB port on your computer and then connect the scanner to the hub.
- X150:
a. Plug the AC adapter into the scanner's power receptor.
b. Plug the other end of the power cable into a standard AC power outlet.
c. Plug the square end of the USB cable into the USB port at the rear of the scanner.
d. Plug the rectangular end of the USB cable into an available USB port on your computer.
e. If using a USB hub, connect the hub to the USB port on your computer and then connect the scanner to the hub.
f. Switch the scanner power on.
4. Install the software: Once the scanner is connected, you need to install the scanner's software. Insert the setup/application CD-ROM included with your scanner into your CD-ROM drive. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the required software. Note that the installation process may vary depending on your operating system (Windows 7, 8, or 10).
5. Test the scanner: After the software installation is complete, double-click the SecureScan icon in the system tray to display the main window. Select the correct model name from the drop-down list and choose the desired settings. Open the scanner cover, place the passport or ID card face-down on the scanner glass, and gently close the cover. The scanner will start scanning immediately, and the scanned image will be displayed on the screen.
