To install the software for the HP G4000 Scanjet Photo Scanner, please follow these steps:
1. Start by unpacking the scanner hardware and removing any shipping tape.
2. Insert the HP Photosmart CD that came with the scanner into your computer's CD drive. If you are using a Windows computer, do not connect the USB cable yet. For Macintosh computers, you can connect the USB cable either before or after installing the software.
3. For Windows installations: Wait for the installation dialog box to display. If it doesn't appear, refer to the "Scanner installation troubleshooting" section on page 12 of the user guide.
4. For Macintosh installations: Double-click on the CD icon that appears on your desktop, and then double-click on the "HP Scanjet Scanner Install" icon to start the installation.
5. Click on "Install software" to begin the scanning software installation. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
6. After the software installation is complete, connect the scanner to your computer using the USB cable. Make sure to connect the square end of the cable to the scanner and the rectangular end to the computer.
7. Test the installation by placing a photo or document on the scanner glass and pressing the Scan button. If you are using Windows software, a dialog box will appear asking "What are you scanning?" Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the scan. If you are using Macintosh software, the HP Scan Pro application will open, and a preview of the scan will be displayed. Accept the preview to send the scanned image to the selected destination.
If you encounter any issues during the installation process, refer to the "Scanner installation troubleshooting" section on page 12 of the user guide for further assistance.
