Before starting the installation, turn off the power at the service panel to prevent electrical shock.
2. Ensure that you are using copper or copper-clad wire with the GFCI receptacle. Do not use aluminum wire.
3. Do not install the GFCI receptacle on a circuit that powers life support equipment.
4. If installing in wet locations, use a weatherproof cover to protect the receptacle and any plugs from moisture.
5. Follow national and local electrical codes for proper installation.
6. Understand basic wiring principles and techniques before attempting to install the GFCI receptacle.
7. Differentiate between the LINE and LOAD cables. The LINE cable delivers power from the service panel to the GFCI, while the LOAD cable delivers power from the GFCI to another receptacle in the circuit.
8. Turn off the power at the service panel and identify the cables/wires in the electrical box.
9. If there is only one cable (2-3 wires), it is the LINE cable. Remove the old receptacle and proceed to step 7A.
10. If there are two cables (4-6 wires), follow steps a-e of the procedure for a box with two cables.
11. Connect the wires according to the chosen procedure (A or B) and the wiring diagram provided in the manual.
12. Fold the wires into the box, keeping the grounding wire away from the LINE and LOAD terminals. xxxx the receptacle to the box and attach the faceplate.
13. Test your work by plugging in a lamp or radio and turning on the power. Press the TEST button on the GFCI to ensure it trips and cuts off the power. Press the RESET button to restore power. Perform this test monthly to ensure proper operation.
14. If there are any issues or the GFCI cannot be reset, refer to the troubleshooting section in the manual.
15. The GFCI receptacle has a self-test feature that periodically checks its functionality. The status indicator light should be solid green when the GFCI is working correctly.
16. The Leviton GFNT1-W receptacle comes with a limited 2-year warranty. Refer to the warranty section in the manual for more details.
Please note that this is a summary of the installation process. For complete and detailed instructions, refer to the Leviton GFNT1-W Non-Tamper-Resistant Receptacle Installation Manual.
