Installing the KCMYTONER GFCI 15 AMP Outlet Electrical Receptacle is a straightforward process. Here are the steps to follow:
1. Turn off power to the outlet: Before starting the installation, make sure to turn off the power to the outlet at the circuit breaker.
2. Remove the existing outlet cover and outlet: Unscrew the cover plate and remove it. Then, unscrew the existing outlet from the electrical box and disconnect the wires.
3. Connect the wires to the corresponding terminals on the GFCI outlet: The GFCI outlet will have clearly labeled terminals for line (incoming power) and load (outgoing power). Connect the black (hot) wire to the brass or gold-colored terminal, the white (neutral) wire to the silver-colored terminal, and the green or bare copper (ground) wire to the green terminal.
4. Mount the GFCI outlet into the electrical box: Carefully insert the GFCI outlet into the electrical box, aligning the xxxx holes. Use the provided screws to secure the outlet to the box.
5. Attach the cover plate: Place the cover plate over the GFCI outlet and secure it with the included screws.
6. Turn on power and test the GFCI: Once the installation is complete, turn on the power at the circuit breaker. Press the "Test" button on the GFCI outlet to simulate a ground fault. The GFCI should trip and cut off power. Press the "Reset" button to restore power. This test ensures that the GFCI is functioning correctly.
It's important to note that if you're unsure about any step of the installation process, it's recommended to consult with a qualified electrician for assistance. Safety should always be a priority when working with electrical systems.
