To install the Leviton AFTR1-W Smartlock Pro Receptacle Outlet, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the power: Before starting the installation, turn off the power to the circuit at the service panel.
2. Identify the cables/wires: Determine if there is one cable (LINE) or two cables (LINE and LOAD) entering the electrical box. The LINE cable delivers power from the service panel, while the LOAD cable delivers power to another receptacle in the circuit.
3. Connect the wires: Depending on the number of cables, follow the appropriate steps below:
a) One Cable (LINE only):
- Connect the white wire from the LINE cable to the WHITE terminal (Silver).
- Connect the black wire from the LINE cable to the HOT terminal (Brass or Black).
- If there is a grounding wire, connect it to the grounding terminal on the GFCI receptacle.
b) Two Cables (LINE and LOAD):
- Connect the white wire from the LINE cable to the WHITE terminal (Silver).
- Connect the black wire from the LINE cable to the HOT terminal (Brass or Black).
- Remove the yellow sticker to reveal the LOAD terminals.
- Connect the white wire from the LOAD cable to the WHITE terminal (Silver).
- Connect the black wire from the LOAD cable to the HOT terminal (Brass or Black).
- If there are grounding wires, connect them to the grounding terminal on the GFCI receptacle and the electrical box.
4. Complete the installation: Fold the wires into the box, keeping the grounding wire away from the WHITE and HOT terminals. xxxx the receptacle to the box and attach the faceplate.
5. Test your work: Turn on the power at the service panel and test the GFCI by pressing the TEST button. The Status Indicator Light should turn off, indicating that the GFCI has tripped. Press the RESET button to restore power. Regularly test the GFCI by pressing the TEST button and ensuring the Status Indicator Light turns off and on correctly.
