1. Before starting the installation, make sure to turn off the power at the service panel to prevent any electrical shock or injury.
2. Ensure that you have the necessary knowledge and experience in basic wiring principles and techniques, as well as the ability to interpret wiring diagrams.
3. Identify the LINE and LOAD cables. The LINE cable delivers power from the service panel to the GFCI outlet, while the LOAD cable delivers power from the GFCI to another receptacle in the circuit.
4. If you have only one cable entering the electrical box, it is the LINE cable. Connect the white wire from the LINE cable to the WHITE terminal (silver) on the GFCI outlet. Connect the black wire from the LINE cable to the HOT terminal (brass or black) on the GFCI outlet.
5. If you have two cables entering the box, one is the LINE cable and the other is the LOAD cable. Connect the white wire from the LINE cable to the WHITE terminal (silver) on the GFCI outlet. Connect the black wire from the LINE cable to the HOT terminal (brass or black) on the GFCI outlet. Remove the yellow sticker to reveal the LOAD terminals. Connect the white wire from the LOAD cable to the WHITE terminal (silver) on the GFCI outlet. Connect the black wire from the LOAD cable to the HOT terminal (brass or black) on the GFCI outlet.
6. If there is a grounding wire, connect it to the grounding terminal on the GFCI outlet. If the electrical box has a grounding terminal, connect a 6-inch bare copper or green wire to the grounding terminal on both the GFCI outlet and the box. Connect the ends of these wires to the bare copper or green wire from the LINE or LOAD cable using a wire connector.
7. Fold the wires into the box, keeping the grounding wire away from the WHITE and HOT terminals. xxxx the GFCI outlet to the box and attach the faceplate.
8. Once the installation is complete, turn on the power at the service panel.
9. Test the GFCI outlet by plugging in a lamp or radio and turning it on. Press the TEST button on the GFCI outlet. The lamp or radio should turn off. Press the RESET button on the GFCI outlet. The lamp or radio should turn on again. If the GFCI outlet does not function correctly, refer to the troubleshooting section in the manual or contact a qualified electrician.
It is important to note that these instructions are a general guide. Always refer to the specific product manual for detailed instructions and follow national and local electrical codes during installation.
