To set up the Bird-X BG Ultrasonic Bird Repeller (Balcony Gard), follow these steps:
1. Gently pull off the back cover of the unit.
2. Set the operation switch (upper right) to OFF.
3. Start the Frequency Dial all the way clockwise (Low) unless you can hear the sound, in which case turn it higher.
4. On the operation switch, choose "MS AC or Battery" if you want the unit to operate briefly each time the motion sensor is tripped (works with both an AC adapter and batteries), or choose "CONT. AC Only" if you want the unit to operate continuously (works with an AC adapter only).
5. Turn the "Sensitivity" dial to adjust the motion sensor sensitivity.
6. If using an AC adapter, plug one end into the port underneath the operation switch and the other into any standard outlet. If using the unit outdoors, make sure to protect the outlet from weather. Run the cord through the notch on the bottom of the unit and snap the cover back into place.
7. If using batteries, install four "C" batteries as shown on the unit. Snap the cover back into place.
8. Expect coverage up to 900 square feet in a generally oval pattern.
9. The speaker projects sound on a horizontal plane in one direction.
10. The lower the sound frequency (clockwise), the greater the coverage.
11. In dense foliage and/or large acreage, multiple units may be necessary.
Note: For optimal range, if installing outdoors, place the unit at least 3 feet above the ground.
