To set up the answering machine on the Motorola CD4012 Digital Cordless Telephone, follow these steps:
1. Make sure the main base unit is connected to the telephone line using the telephone line cord.
2. Plug in the power adapter to the main base unit and connect it to a power outlet.
3. Place the handsets in the charging cradles to charge them fully before use.
4. On the handset, press the Menu button.
5. Use the navigation buttons to scroll to the "Answering Machine" option and press the Select button.
6. Select "Answering Machine Setup" from the menu.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to set the date, time, and other settings for the answering machine.
8. To record a greeting message, select "Record Greeting" and follow the prompts to record your desired message.
9. Once the greeting message is recorded, select "Greeting Options" to choose the greeting mode (e.g., default, personal, or none).
10. To enable remote access to the answering machine, select "Remote Access" and follow the instructions to set a security code.
11. Save any changes and exit the menu.
