To set up the answering machine on the Panasonic KX-TG4742 Digital Cordless Answering System, follow these steps:
1. Make sure the answering system is turned on. The default setting is on, but if it's off, press the "Answer On/Off" button on the base unit to turn it on.
2. Access the answering system menu by pressing the "Menu" button on the base unit.
3. Use the up/down arrows on the base unit to navigate to "Answering Device" and press the "Select" button.
4. Select "Greeting" and press the "Select" button.
5. Choose the greeting number you want to set or change (e.g., Greeting 1, Greeting 2, etc.) and press the "Select" button.
6. The base unit will play the current greeting. To record a new greeting, press the "Record" button on the base unit and speak your desired greeting after the beep. Press the "Stop" button when finished.
7. To review the recorded greeting, press the "Play" button on the base unit.
8. If you're satisfied with the greeting, press the "Save" button to save it. If you want to re-record the greeting, repeat steps 6 and 7.
9. To exit the menu, press the "Off" button on the base unit.
