To set up your Celestron 22030 Travel Scope Telescope for the first time, follow these steps:
1. Unpack all the components from the box and make sure all parts and accessories are present according to the parts list provided in the instruction manual.
2. Start by assembling the tripod. Stand the tripod upright and pull the tripod legs outward until each leg is fully extended.
3. To raise the height of the tripod, unlock the leg lock clamps at the bottom of each tripod leg by opening the clamp for each section and pulling outward. Once a clamp is unlocked, pull the tripod leg out as far as it will go, and then close the leg lock to secure it. Continue doing this for each tripod leg and each section to raise the height to the desired level.
4. If you want to raise the tripod height further, use the central column locking xxxx . Turn the locking xxxx counterclockwise until loose. Then, pull up on the head of the tripod to the desired height and tighten the locking xxxx . Make sure the column extension xxxx is tight for stability.
5. Attach the telescope optical tube to the tripod. Flip the lever on the side of the tripod head to release the quick-release mounting plate and lift it out of the tripod head. xxxx the quick-release mounting plate to the bottom of the telescope optical tube. Place the telescope optical tube with the quick-release plate back into the tripod head and secure it by pushing the quick-release lever so it is flush against the mount.
6. Adjust the pan handle for manual movement. The up and down (altitude) motion is controlled by the pan handle. Rotate the pan handle counterclockwise to unlock the up and down motion. Move the telescope up or down as needed and then rotate the pan handle clockwise to lock it in place. You can adjust the amount of force it takes to turn the telescope left and right by adjusting the azimuth tension xxxx .
7. Install the diagonal and eyepiece. Loosen the two thumbscrews on the rear of the telescope optical tube and remove the cap covering the focuser. Remove the caps from both ends of the diagonal and insert the chrome barrel of the diagonal inside the focuser of the telescope optical tube. Secure the two thumbscrews to hold it in place. Loosen the set screws on the side of the diagonal and insert the chrome barrel of the eyepiece into the diagonal. Secure the thumbscrews to hold the eyepiece in place.
8. Install the finderscope. Locate and remove the two silver thumb nuts on the left side of the telescope tube. Place the finder bracket over the two exposed threaded shafts. Replace the nuts to hold the finderscope in place.
9. Align the finderscope. To ensure the finderscope is pointing in the same direction as the main telescope, take the scope outside during daylight hours and locate a distant daytime object. Center this object in the main telescope using a low-power (20 mm) eyepiece. Look through the eyepiece of the finderscope and adjust the adjustment thumbscrews until the crosshairs of the finderscope are centered on the same object chosen with the main telescope.
10. Your Celestron 22030 Travel Scope Telescope is now set up and ready to use. To aim the main telescope, grab the mount's panhandle and loosen the altitude lock. Look through the finderscope until the crosshairs are on the target you want to view and lock the altitude lock to hold the scope in place. Use the focus xxxx to adjust the focus of the telescope.
Note: It is important to read and follow all safety warnings and instructions provided in the instruction manual before using the telescope.
