To adjust the clearance between the beater and the bowl in the KitchenAid 5KSM150 Tilt-Head Stand Mixer, follow these steps:
1. Turn the speed control to "O" and unplug the stand mixer.
2. Lift the motor head and locate the xxxx on the side of the mixer head.
3. Turn the xxxx slightly counter clockwise (left) to raise the flat beater or clockwise (right) to lower the flat beater.
4. Make small adjustments and test the clearance by running the mixer on a low speed. The beater should just clear the surface of the bowl without hitting it.
5. If you over adjust the xxxx , the bowl lock lever may not lock into place, so be careful not to turn it too much.
6. Once you have achieved the desired clearance, lock the motor head by placing the locking lever in the LOCK position.
Note: When properly adjusted, the flat beater will not strike the bottom or side of the bowl. If the beater or wire whip is too close and hits the bowl, the coating on the beater may wear off or the wires on the whip may wear. Adjusting the clearance ensures proper mixing and prevents damage to the stand mixer.
