To set up the Ascensia CONTOUR NEXT EZ Blood Glucose Monitoring System for the first time, follow these steps:
1. Insert the batteries: Open the battery compartment on the back of the meter and insert two 3-volt lithium batteries (DL2032 or CR2032) with the correct polarity.
2. Set the date and time: Press and hold the "M" button until the year starts flashing. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the year, then press "M" to confirm. Repeat this process for the month, day, hour, and minute.
3. Apply a control solution (optional): If you have control solution, apply a drop to the test strip instead of blood to check that the meter is working properly. Follow the instructions in the user guide for using control solution.
4. Insert a test strip: Open the test strip vial and remove a test strip. Insert the test strip into the meter with the gray end facing up. The meter will turn on automatically.
5. Apply blood sample: Use the lancing device to obtain a small blood sample from your fingertip. Touch the blood drop to the front edge of the yellow window on the test strip. The meter will beep to indicate that enough blood has been applied.
6. Read the result: After a 5-second countdown, the meter will display your blood glucose result. The result will be stored in the meter's memory along with the date and time.
