To install the Wayne CDU980E Stainless Steel Sump Pump, please follow these step-by-step instructions:
1. Inspect the pump: Before installation, inspect the pump for any damage. If the unit is damaged, contact the Customer Service department for assistance.
2. Read the manual: Familiarize yourself with the safety guidelines and operating instructions provided in the manual. It is important to follow these instructions to ensure safe and proper installation.
3. Unpack the pump: Remove the pump from its packaging and ensure all components are included and undamaged.
4. Choose a suitable location: Select a location for the sump pump that is appropriate for your application, such as a basement or crawl space. Ensure the area is clear of debris and provides enough space for the pump to operate effectively.
5. Set up the pump: Place the pump on a solid, level surface. Do not place the pump directly on clay, earth, gravel, or sand. You can use a brick or block to provide a solid base if needed.
6. Position the pump: Make sure the switch is away from the inlet to prevent obstruction. Verify that the switch has at least 1 inch clearance to the side wall of the basin and is free to move throughout its range of motion.
7. Install discharge plumbing: Follow local, regional, and state codes to install the discharge plumbing. Rigid PVC pipe is recommended. If required, drill a 1/8 inch "weep" hole in the discharge pipe 1 inch above the pump discharge to allow for drainage and periodic cleaning.
8. Install a check valve: It is recommended to install a check valve to prevent back-flow of fluid after each pump cycle. The check valve should be positioned just above the basin for easy removal of the pump for cleaning and service.
9. Connect the power supply: Secure the power supply cord to the discharge pipe using cable or zip ties to prevent switch entanglement. Connect the pump power supply cord to a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) receptacle for added safety.
10. Test the pump: Fill the basin with water to the appropriate level. The pump should start automatically when the water reaches the switch-on level and stop when the water level reaches the switch-off level. Verify that the switch is operating without any obstructions.
11. Verify discharge location: Ensure that the discharge pipe carries the water at least 3 feet away from the foundation to prevent water damage. If the discharge line is exposed to freezing temperatures, position the pipe in a downward slope away from the foundation to allow for drainage and prevent freezing.
12. Secure the basin cover: Install the basin cover and gasket to prevent debris from falling into the basin, prevent personal injury, and contain gases and odors.
