To install the Amazon Smart Thermostat, follow these steps:
1. Check compatibility: Before starting the setup, make sure to check whether your HVAC system is compatible with the Amazon Smart Thermostat. You can do this by visiting amazon.com/amazonsmartthermostat and selecting "Check compatibility" in the Compatibility information box.
2. Set up in the Alexa app: Open the Alexa app on your mobile device and select "More" > "Add a Device" > "Thermostat" > "Amazon." If your thermostat has not been installed on the wall, select "No" for guided instructions on how to connect the wiring and install the thermostat. If your thermostat is already installed, select "Yes" for instructions on how to connect it to Wi-Fi and Alexa.
3. Connect the wiring: Remove the faceplate or box from your old thermostat and take a picture of the wiring connections for reference. Make careful notes of which terminals have wires connected and label each wire with the terminal it came from using the stickers provided. Make sure there is a wire for the C terminal, which provides power from the HVAC system to the thermostat. If there is no unused wire to convert to a C wire, a C-Wire Adapter is required. Install the Amazon Smart Thermostat wall plate and connect the labeled wires to the appropriate slots as directed in the Alexa app.
4. Power on the system: Turn on the power to your heating/cooling system at the breaker box or switch. If the thermostat shows "SEt" or the temperature, it is successfully installed. If nothing shows on the thermostat, turn off the system power, remove the faceplate, and ensure all wires are connected properly before turning the power back on.
