To transfer files between two computers using the INSIGNIA NS-PCK336C USB File Transfer Cable, follow these steps:
1. Make sure both computers meet the system requirements, which include having Windows 10 or macOS 10.12 or later installed, and having a USB-A or USB-C port available.
2. Connect the cable from one computer to the other. If your computer has a USB-C port, attach the USB-C adapter before connecting the cable.
3. Launch the software on each computer. If you are connecting a Windows PC to a Mac, follow the PC setup steps on your PC and the Mac setup steps on your Mac.
4. On Windows PCs, the software is called Smart Datalink. After connecting the cable, the software should detect the connection and run automatically. If it doesn't open, go to My Computer and double-click SmartDatalink.exe.
5. On Mac computers, the software is called MacKMLink. After connecting the cable, the software should detect the connection and run automatically. If it doesn't open, open the Smartlink disc icon on the desktop of your Mac and double-click MacKMLink.app to install.
6. If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to grant necessary permissions and make sure the software has the required access.
7. Once the software is running on both computers and the connection is complete, a status icon will appear on the bottom-right of each computer. One icon indicates a successful connection, while the other indicates a failed connection.
8. To transfer files, you have two options:
- Option 1: Drag and drop the files you want to transfer from one computer to another. A progress bar will appear while the files are being transferred.
- Option 2: Select the files you want to transfer, then use the Ctrl + C shortcut to copy the files. Use Ctrl + V to paste the files onto the destination computer.
9. If you encounter an error message on your Mac stating that you cannot write files to a specific folder, choose another folder that does not have user restrictions.
10. Additionally, the INSIGNIA NS-PCK336C USB File Transfer Cable supports sharing the mouse and keyboard between the two connected computers. You can use a mouse to control the other computer and use ALT + S to switch the mouse between the two computers.
