To start the Generac GP6500 portable generator, follow these steps:
1. Make sure the generator is placed on a flat, level surface and is at least 5 feet away from any combustible material.
2. Check the fuel level and add gasoline if necessary. The generator requires regular unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87.
3. Locate the fuel valve on the side of the generator and turn it to the "On" position.
4. If the generator has been stored for a long period of time or the fuel tank is empty, it may be necessary to prime the fuel system. To do this, locate the primer bulb on the side of the generator and press it several times until resistance is felt.
5. Set the choke lever to the "Choke" position.
6. Turn the engine switch to the "On" position.
7. If the generator has an electric start, press and hold the electric start button until the engine starts. If the generator has a recoil start, grasp the recoil handle and pull it briskly until the engine starts.
8. Once the engine starts, allow it to run for a few minutes to warm up before connecting any devices.
9. To stop the generator, turn the engine switch to the "Off" position.
