Cleaning the Keurig K-Compact Single Serve Coffee Brewer is essential for maintaining its performance and ensuring the best-tasting coffee. Here is the proper cleaning procedure:
1. Brewer Exterior: Clean the exterior of the brewer with a damp, soapy, lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Do not immerse the brewer in water or other liquids.
2. Drip Tray: The drip tray can accumulate up to 8 ounces of overflow. Slide it towards you to remove it and clean it in the dishwasher (top rack only) or with a damp, soapy, lint-free, non-abrasive cloth.
3. Water Reservoir & Reservoir Lid: Periodically clean the water reservoir and reservoir lid with a damp, soapy, non-abrasive cloth. Do not put them in the dishwasher. Do not dry the inside of the water reservoir with a cloth to avoid lint.
4. Filter Screen: To clean the filter screen at the base of the water reservoir, empty the reservoir and rinse the screen with the strong force of water from your faucet. Alternatively, you can use a sprayer to aim the water spray at the filter screen. If needed, you can agitate (shake) the water reservoir with approximately two inches of clean water to clean the filter screen.
5. K-Cup® Pod Holder Assembly: To remove the K-Cup® pod holder, lift the handle and grasp the top of the holder while pushing up on the bottom until it releases. Clean the holder with a damp, soapy, non-abrasive cloth. To clean the funnel, remove it from the holder by pulling on it until it pops off, and then snap it back onto the holder.
6. Exit Needle: Remove the pod holder assembly and detach the funnel. Locate the exit needle on the inside bottom of the holder. Insert a straightened paper clip into the exit needle to loosen any clogs and push them out.
7. Entrance Needle: Lift the brewer handle and locate the entrance needle on the underside of the lid. Carefully insert a straightened paper clip into both holes of the needle and move it around gently to loosen any coffee grounds. Lower the handle and run two water-only brew cycles without a K-Cup® pod.
It is recommended to clean the brewer regularly to keep it running smoothly. The frequency of cleaning depends on usage and water quality. Descaling the brewer every 3-6 months is also necessary to remove mineral deposits. Refer to the descaling procedure in the user manual for detailed instructions.
