To install a SHIMANO rear derailleur, follow these steps:
1. Start by making sure that the B-tension adjustment bolt does not touch the fork of the dropout and cause it to bend.
2. Check the chain length and make sure it is appropriate for your bike. Refer to the manual for specific instructions on determining the correct chain length.
3. If you are using the RD-7970-A / SM-RD79-A model, use the provided tools (TL-EW01 and TL-EW02) to connect and remove the electric wires.
4. Attach the SM-RD79-A to the seat stay of the bicycle frame. Make sure it is compatible with the width of your seat stay.
5. Peel the rubber sheet from its release liner and attach it to the SM-RD79-A, ensuring the wider side faces the connector. Press down on the entire surface for approximately 1 minute to secure it.
6. Provisionally attach the SM-RD79-A to the frame using the rubber band. Connect the electric wires to the SM-RD79-A.
7. Remove the electric wire from the RD-7970 using the TL-EW01 tool. Replace the RD-7970 with the RD-7970-A.
8. Pass the electric wire through the TL-EW02 tool and connect it to the RD-7970-A.
9. Check the excess length of the electric wire and make any necessary adjustments to the height of the SM-RD79-A.
10. Secure the SM-RD79-A to the frame and secure the electric wire to the frame using plastic tape if needed.
Please refer to the SHIMANO Rear Derailleur Instructions manual for more detailed instructions and illustrations.
