To connect your ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium to your heating and cooling system, follow these steps:
1. Turn off the power to your HVAC system using the master switch or circuit breaker box.
2. Identify the terminal descriptions on the thermostat. The terminals include G (Fan), Rc (Cool transformer), Rh (Heat transformer), O/B (Heat pump reversing valve), Y1, Y2 (Used for 1-2 stages of conventional A/C or 1-2 stages of heat pump compressor), W1, W2 (Used for 1-2 stages of conventional heat or 1-2 stages of auxiliary heat with a heat pump), C (24VAC common), ACC+/- (Used for dehumidifiers, humidifiers, ventilators, HRVs, or ERVs), and PEK+ (Power Extender Kit for Pro Builder models).
3. Make sure your heating and cooling system is compatible with the Smart Thermostat Premium. It works with most centralized residential heating and cooling systems, including up to 2 stages of heating and cooling, heat pumps (air, water, and geothermal) with up to 2 stages and 2 stages of AUX heat, and accessories such as dehumidifiers, humidifiers, or ventilation devices.
4. Connect the corresponding wires from your HVAC system to the appropriate terminals on the thermostat. Refer to the terminal descriptions and the wiring guide provided in the manual for guidance.
5. If you don't have a C-wire (24VAC common wire), you can use the Power Extender Kit (PEK) to extend a C-wire when a physical wire is not available. The PEK is sold separately for Pro Builder models.
6. Once all the wires are connected, turn on the power to your HVAC system.
7. Follow the on-screen prompts on the thermostat to complete the setup process, including connecting to your Wi-Fi network and configuring the thermostat settings.
