Cleaning the DeLonghi Magnifica coffee maker is an important step to maintain its performance and prolong its lifespan. Here is how you can clean the different parts of the machine:
1. Cleaning the grounds container: Whenever the "grounds container" indicator light comes on steady, it means the grounds container is full and needs to be emptied and cleaned. Open the service door on the front of the machine, remove the drip tray, and empty and clean both the grounds container and the drip tray. Make sure to remove all residue from the bottom of the grounds container.
2. Cleaning the infuser: The infuser should be cleaned regularly to prevent coffee deposits from building up. Turn off the machine and open the service door. Press the two red release buttons on the infuser sideways and towards the center to remove it. Wash the infuser under running water without using detergents. Clean the inside of the machine by scraping off any coffee residue with a plastic or wooden fork and vacuuming up the residue. Replace the infuser by sliding it onto the supports and pushing it in until it clicks into place.
3. Cleaning the coffee delivery spout: Check that the holes in the coffee delivery spout are not blocked. If they are, scrape off the dry coffee residues with a needle.
4. Cleaning the cappuccino frother: After each use, release a little steam by turning the steam xxxx counter-clockwise until it stops. Then, turn the xxxx clockwise to stop the steam. Remove the cappuccino frother cover by rotating it clockwise and pulling it downwards. Remove the steam nozzle from the delivery spout by pulling it downwards. Wash the cappuccino frother and steam nozzle in warm water, making sure to clean the two holes in the steam nozzle with a needle if necessary. Replace the steam nozzle and cappuccino frother cover.
5. Cleaning the water tank and drip tray: The water tank should be cleaned regularly. Rinse it and fill it with fresh water. The drip tray has a level indicator, and when the indicator becomes visible, the drip tray needs to be emptied and cleaned.
Remember to always unplug the machine and allow it to cool down before cleaning. Do not immerse the machine in water or use solvents or abrasive detergents. A soft damp cloth is sufficient for cleaning the exterior of the machine.
