To clean the GE Appliances Opal 2.0 Ice Maker, follow these steps:
1. Unplug the ice maker and remove the water filter (if present).
2. Replace the water filter with the reservoir's screened intake cap.
3. Drain the ice maker by removing the drain plugs and allowing the water to flow into a sink or bucket.
4. Create a solution of five cups of water and one teaspoon of household bleach.
5. Pour the solution into the water reservoir up to the fill line.
6. Plug in the ice maker and hold the 'Clean' button for 3 seconds to initiate the cleaning process.
7. The water will circulate, and the 'Cleaning' indicator light will turn on.
8. After three minutes, the water will stop circulating, and the 'Cleaning' indicator light will turn off.
9. Drain the bleach solution by unhooking the drain hoses at the back of the unit and allowing the water to flow into a sink or bucket.
10. Rinse the ice maker by adding five cups of fresh water to the reservoir and pressing the 'Clean' button to initiate a second cleaning cycle.
11. Repeat steps 9 and 10 two more times, adding fresh water to the reservoir each time.
12. Reinsert the drain plugs and fill the unit with fresh water.
13. Press the 'Power' button to start making ice.
It is recommended to clean the Opal 2.0 Ice Maker once per week to keep the ice tasting fresh. The cleaning process helps remove any mineral deposits and sanitize the internal components.
